A MESSAGE FROM THE FINANCE TEAM – SEPTEMBER 2021
It is in uncertain and challenging times like these that our strength as a community, being the church, is more important than ever. Over the course of this pandemic, our leadership has continued to innovate and adapt in order to safely maintain active ministry and connection in new ways. We are particularly excited about the return to in-person worship this fall and sharing our sacred spaces again with one another. Our recent investment in live-streaming capability means we can continue to offer online services for those who are more comfortable participating from home. We are extremely grateful for the caring and professionalism of our ministry team and for all of you faithful folk who hold us together in love, prayer and community.
Maintaining the financial health of Pacific Spirit United has been the focus of this committee, adapting our budget to these special circumstances. In the face of lost revenues and ongoing operational costs, we are grateful for the concern and questions from people asking how they can continue their financial support of ministry, or even provide special gifts, in this unprecedented time. We would like to offer some practical suggestions.
WAYS TO DONATE
PAR – this is an ideal time to sign up for regular donations by way of automatic monthly withdrawals from your bank account. The PAR (pre-authorized remittance) form can be accessed HERE. Please complete, sign and mail a copy of the form together with a void cheque to the Pacific Spirit United Church office and we will process this as quickly as possible. Withdrawals occur on or around the 20th day of each month. For those already on PAR who wish to change their monthly donation or make a special donation, simply contact Janet by email at email@example.com with your instructions.
Envelopes - For those who prefer using weekly or monthly envelopes, these can now be placed in the offering plate on entry to worship service. Alternatively, we would be grateful to receive your offerings through good, old-fashioned mail. You might consider providing post-dated cheques for added convenience.
INTERAC e-transfers – we are now able to receive donations by e-transfer. Through your online banking, make a donation to Pacific Spirit United Church at email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, address, and telephone number in the message box for receipting purposes.

If it is more convenient for you at this time, we would gratefully receive donations through Canada Helps with which we are registered. Please keep in mind that Canada Helps retains a 4% transaction fee for one-time donations and 3.5% for monthly donations.
Gifts of Securities – A gift of shares or other securities can have significant tax benefits in certain circumstances and is easily facilitated by our investment team. Please see the LINK for more information on how to make a donation.
Income Tax Receipts are issued for all donations over $25. Because of the year-round nature of donations, tax receipts are issued once a year in early February unless an earlier receipt is requested.
Focus on First – The Covid-19 pandemic continues to put a serious strain on the resources of First United impacting their ability to deliver critical services to those experiencing marginalization in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Please consider a donation to First United either directly at www.firstunited.ca/donate or through Pacific Spirit United, clearly marked “Focus on First”.
Please consider what you might be able to do, how you might respond in faith, to lift everyone up at this time. If you have any further questions or concerns, please email me email@example.com.
