Contemplative Meditation and Centering Prayer

Finding the still point, in action and in contemplation.

We have two groups that gather:

Monday evenings:

7:30-9:00 pm, in the Library/Lounge of the Memorial Centre.

Wednesday mornings:

10-11:30 am, in the Library/Lounge of the Memorial Centre.

The leadership is from Pacific Spirit United Church. Participants are partly from the church and partly from the wider community. We are all seeking that still point from which to live with integrity and joy.

We greet each other and spend 20 minutes in silent meditation. Then we have tea taking time to reflect on our own questions and lives as we are challenged by a book, a reading, a video that we are reflecting on together. Our approach is contemplative. That means we take our time, respond from within and learn to wonder together without judgment, open to new insights and potential for spiritual maturity.

There is laughter, questioning, sharing and discovery as we take time to listen within and to one another.

Perhaps you are looking for such a group. Perhaps you are just curious and wonder if you would like meditation.

Our groups are open. Folks come and join us throughout the year. You are welcome! Come once or come again and again.

The gift of contemplative prayer is not a way of thinking or speaking. It’s much more a way of not thinking and not talking. It is more about naked presence. It finally moves beyond words into silence, into awareness of the Mystery that is too deep for words. Our awareness of God’s presence is outside of and beyond our power to express in any words or conceive in any thought.

    – Richard Rohr, daily meditation February 5, 2017

"We wait patiently; in silence, openness, and quiet expectancy, motionless within and without. We surrender to the attraction to be still, to be loved, just to be."

– Thomas Keating, Open Mind Open Heart

"Silence is God’s first language; everything else is a poor translation. In order to hear that language, we must learn to be still and to rest in God."

– Thomas Keating, Invitation to Love
