Choral Scholar Application
Scholarships are paid monthly ($70 per week based on attendance) and are awarded to grade 12 students (2023-2024) with the best qualifications. The applications will remain open until the positions are filled.
What is expected of a Choral Scholar?
Choral scholars are required to sing in the Chamber Choir of Pacific Spirit United Church, attending regular Thursday evening rehearsals (7:30 PM - 9:00 PM), Sunday morning services (9:15 AM - 11:15 AM), the annual Christmas Concert (December 10, 2:30 PM), and the Christmas Eve 9:00 PM service. The term of the program is from September 7th to June 23rd. You should consider how many hours a week you are willing to devote to your singing, and how that relates to your school work and your other activities. In general, you need to be an organized person, willing to forego extensive social or extra-curricular activities, in order to make such combinations work.
Are there any restrictions?
The Pacific Spirit Choral Scholarships are available to students who will be enrolled in grade 12 (2023-24) and who also meet the musical requirements of the position. All applicants must have a social insurance number.

When do the auditions and interviews take place?
Auditions will be scheduled once your application has been received.
When will I hear the results of the Choral Auditions?
You should receive the results 2-3 days after your audition.
What will happen at the audition?
At your audition you will be asked to sing some basic vocal exercises and you will also be asked to do some sight-reading and ear-tests. The ear-tests will consist of exercises such as recognizing intervals, singing the middle note of a given chord, singing back a short melody, and other similar exercises.
